Harvest Hosts
We don’t have a name for our Airstream yet. We’ve tried several out. The kids regularly come up with all kind of names—no one agrees. So, for now, she’s nameless. Our first long trip down to Redlands, California consisted of smoky skies, feverish kids, Covid-testing, feverish Mama, more Covid-testing some questionable campsites and and finally stopping outside of San Luis Obispo in San Ardo, California at Ranch 43 a family-run Olive Oil farm. This cool opportunity was available to us because we signed up for Harvest Host, a nationwide network of farms, vineyards, ranches, museums, and other sites that are available for free for one night RV or camping stays. Our annual fee was $99. Harvest Hosts ask that you donate or spend at least $20 at each site (which is far lower than most RV parks and campsites). Ranch 43 was our first Harvest Host experience.
My nearest and dearest know that I am obsessed with the idea of one day owning an olive farm. We were absolutely enamored by Ranch 43 and the care and dedication Greg and his wife had poured into all the details of the land, design, product, milling process, education, and just passion for their craft. We spent much more than $20, lol. Harvest Host might not be a money saver for us…
